Spring is here and you know what that means: time to get cleaning. There’s nothing more refreshing than the feeling of an organized home. When the home is in order, life tends to feel a little more balanced. You feel new, rejuvenated, and ready to take on the world. The only thing standing in your way is getting started… Sigh.
Why is it so daunting to finally sort through and organize clutter? That pile of mail isn’t doing any good sitting on your dining room table. Neither is that box of assorted cords and chargers, long lost from their hosting devices. Maybe the reason organizing can feel so overwhelming is actually quite simple. All of those piles of clutter are really just decisions waiting to be made.
Think about it. You’ll have to make choices like: Do I want to toss or shred that mail? Pay a bill? Donate this shirt? These decisions all lead to an action that will put the item where it actually belongs. Before you know it, the clutter will be gone! Instead of looking at piles of your belongings as daunting tasks, start making small choices that will lead you to an organized haven.
Spending just a few minutes organizing here and there would be nice, but it’s probably not going to work. The clutter will catch back up before you have time to make any real progress. On average, it takes about 20-30 hours to clean a home. It’s not realistic to do it all at once; you’ll have to dedicate a few hours at a time. Block off a day on your calendar, turn up some music, and enjoy yourself.
When you’re ready, visualize how great you’ll feel when your life is clutter-free. Plan ahead and make sure you have all the supplies you need to make it happen. Decluttering is really as fun as you make it! Soon enough, you can relax peacefully in your newly cleaned home.
