Mental Health Month
Taking Care of You

Health & Well Being

May is Mental Health Month! When it comes to improving your overall well-being, focusing on your mental health can be just as important as your physical health. Often times, they even go hand in hand. Here are a few Healthy Itemsways to improve your mental health this season:

Get Active

Regularly taking a walk is one of the best things you can do for both your physical and mental health. It’s especially beneficial if you can take a walk outdoors. Being surrounded by nature can help lower your stress and anxiety levels. New research shows that bird watching may be good for you, as it can help provide a feeling of connectivity to your community, while you’re enjoying the greenery. These other four activities can help reduce stress, too!

Take a Day Off

Sometimes you just need time to relax or focus on YOU. Don’t be afraid to take a day off from your regular activities to prioritize taking care of your mental health. Try making your own spa day at home with a soothing bubble bath, candles and maybe even a facial mask. Or get out of the house and spend the day doing nothing but your favorite local activities. You’re in charge!

Try Meditation

Set aside some time in your day to tune into your brain. Maybe you have a few extra minutes after you get ready in the morning, or maybe there’s room to unwind before bedtime. Practicing meditation can do wonderful things for your mental (and physical) health. While it’s widely recognized that meditation can help you de-stress, it may also help boost your immune system. Take 10 minutes to gently focus your attention on your own mantra, breathing deeply, and allowing your mind to come right back to your mantra whenever it wanders off. Take a deep breath or two and remember to take care of you! Being proactive about self-care may help you prevent feeling stuck in a rut. It’s important to recognize when you aren’t feeling your best so that you can get help when you need it sooner.
