Spring Cleaning
Deciding What and When to Start

Money Matters

Spring cleaning is about more than just wiping down the shelves and vacuuming the floors. It’s also about decluttering your life and getting a fresh start for the new season.

Dirty Clothes

One of the biggest challenges of clearing clutter for many people is that warm feeling of nostalgia that creeps in as they sort through things that they maybe haven’t seen for years. How can you throw away memories?

The good news is, memories aren’t tangible things. Throwing away something you no longer use should not make you feel guilty. Your kids’ items, for example, are not your responsibility to save and hold on to. Give them a chance to come collect anything they would like to save, and while they’re there, have them help you throw away what is no longer needed.

Not sure where to start? Here are some items to consider parting with:

· China set
· Wedding dress
· Antiques
· Greeting cards
· Books
· Luggage
· Old furniture
· Clothes
· Jewelry
· Art
· Musical instruments
· Household junk

Get the help you need to clear out what you don’t want sooner rather than later. You can even make an event out of it! Order some pizza and snacks, invite the family over, and rent a truck (if needed) to really get a fresh start this season. This will make your life much easier if you ever need to move or downsize your home and it will help simplify your planning for the future.
